These dates come from the Department of Social Development schedule for 2026/27, approved by National Treasury in March 2026.

Why SASSA pays on these days

SASSA sets pay dates using a few simple rules. It pays as early in the month as possible and spreads payments over three days so the National Payment System and pay points are not overloaded. It avoids the first of the month, Mondays, weekends and the day after a public holiday.

September fits the pattern with no changes needed. Heritage Day falls on Thursday, 24 September 2026, but it does not clash with a main pay day.

The fourth payment day on 7 September

SASSA added a fourth payment day for people picked for a grant review or eLife Certification. If this applies to you, your money comes on Monday, 7 September 2026 instead of your usual date. SASSA sends a bulk SMS to tell you.

Do not ignore it. Visit your nearest SASSA office to finish the review, or SASSA can suspend your grant next cycle.

When is the SRD R370 paid in September 2026?

The SRD R370 grant does not follow the three day schedule. SASSA pays it in batches near month end, usually from around the 24th. Your date is set individually, so your neighbour may be paid on a different day.

Check your status at srd.sassa.gov.za using your ID number and the cellphone number on your application, or on WhatsApp at 082 046 8553. An approved status shows your payment date. The amount stays at R370 until 31 March 2027.

Grant amounts in September 2026

Amounts are unchanged since the April 2026 increases:

  • Older Persons, Disability and Care Dependency Grant: R2 400
  • War Veterans Grant: R2 420
  • Foster Care Grant: R1 295
  • Child Support Grant and Grant-in-Aid: R580
  • SRD Grant: R370

Where to collect your grant

Your money stays in your account once paid, so there is no need to withdraw it on the day. You can draw at ATMs or at the till at Shoprite, Checkers, Usave, Boxer and Pick n Pay, often free of charge.

The deadline to swap the Postbank gold card was 31 August 2026, so gold cards no longer work in September. Take your ID to a Postbank branch or Post Office for a free black card.

What to do if your payment is late

Give it two to three working days, because banks need time to clear the money. Then check that your banking details match your ID. If it is still missing, call 0800 60 10 11 or visit your nearest office.
